Shepherding Groups

What are Shepherding Groups?

Shepherding Groups are small groups of EBC members that meet throughout the week for mutual care and accountability. They strengthen our corporate commitment to one another.

How Do They Serve the Life of the Church?

They strengthen our congregational commitment to one another. Congregational worship on Sunday is like the heart of a human body. It is the primary organ which pumps life-giving blood to every member of the body, right down to the left pinky. The heart is central; all circulatory activity flows from it or flows to it.

We want Shepherding Groups to be like the arteries, veins, and capillaries of the body—channels that help circulate life-giving blood. Consequently, Shepherding Groups are not to be their own thing, disengaged from Sunday corporate worship. Rather, everything that happens in Shepherding Groups during the week should be flowing from or surging toward that time of corporate worship on the Lord’s Day. The groups are only part of the greater commitment to display God’s triune care by loving one another.

Who May Participate?

As we prioritize commitment to the entire body over a commitment to part of the body, we reserve shepherding groups to members at EBC.

If you’re not a member of EBC yet, we welcome you to attend our congregational prayer and worship services. We are also happy to connect you with other members for fellowship, meals together, or bible study. Please contact us if you’re interested in knowing more about membership at EBC.

What Do You Do During Shepherding Group?

Members meet for fellowship in homes to discuss Sunday’s sermon and seek to apply it to their lives. Groups will often share a meal (or snack), sing, and pray for one-another.
